JEWELS of "GEETHA" - No:1

Sadguru Swami Dayananda Saraswatiji

"Paritranaya Sadhunam Vinasaya cha Dushkrutham,
Dhrma Samsthapanarthaya, Sambhawami Yuge Yuge."

In the "Bhagawath Geetha", each one of the 700 verses, including the questions and doubts raised by Arjuna,is a Jewel, if we consider the Geetha as the Crown of the Spiritual Wisdom of India, they are the jewels of that Crown. It is the essence of the Vedas and Upanishads and forms part of the "Pramanams" of our Sanadana Dharma. Every one of Arjuna's doubts is relevant to us, as these doubts are there in our minds too. Arjuna says " Chanchalam hi manaha krishna pramadhi balavad drudam" and our minds are also fickle and wavering,it travels fast and unsteadily, reaching the far-east to the far-west in no time and it blows like the wind to all directions.Lord Krishna's answers to Arjuna are very much for our rescue. The Lord Krishna describes in depth what we have to do, what is Karmayoga,Gnana Yoga and Bhakthi Yoga for us in the Bhagawath Geetha. To pick up some of the jewels from this jewellery,is a tough task. But Mahatmas and Sadgurus like Sri Swami Dayananda Saraswati of the Arsha Vidya Gurukulam of Coimbatore, have chosen the essential ten verses of the Geetha, from "Asochyan anwasochastwam.." to "......Ma sucha:" between which the Geetha unfolds itself into the Knowledge of the self as the "Fearless" and "Full". This Self knowledge or the knowledge of the self is the essence of Bhagawath Geetha. Our "Life" is the "journey of purification",by doing our Karmas in proper Dharmic ways we purify our minds and then the Karma becomes a "Yoga" and as one gets committed to the life of Karmayoga,he becomes a "Muni" or a contemplative one.One acquires a mastery of the mind because the likes and dislikes are neutralised. A mind free from reactions, is an abiding mind, the mind and the sense organs become conductive to the pursuit of knowledge ,and one becomes a Sanyasi, this Sanyasa is,- in the absolute sense ,an abidance in the knowledge of the SELF. So let us try to understand the Self by dwelling into the ten essential verses of the Bhagawath Geetha, the Geetha sung by Lord Krishna Himself.

Sree Bhagawan Uvacha:
"Asochyan Anwasochastwam pragnya vadamscha bhashase,
Gatasunagatasumscha nanusochanti Panditha:"........2-11

[The Bhagawan said: "You are are grieving for those who should not be grieved for. Yet you speak the words of wisdom. The wise do not grieve over the dead or the living."]

After Krishna took his chariot to the battle field,Arjuna saw the enemies, they were all the relatives and he thought he had to kill all of them to get the kingdom. He did not like such a kingdom. The prospect of death of the members of both the armies which consisted of the relatives, friends, kith and kin and Gurus caused grief in the heart of Arjuna. He could not imagine that he would be the killer of all of them before becoming the king.So he could not accept Krishna's instruction of getting up and fighting. Arjuna told Krishna that He was asking him to kill his near and dear ones. Then the Lord said that there was no room for grief, this suggested that grief is not a legitimate feeling. It arised from not knowing the real nature of the Self, from the false notion of the Self.He said the wisemen did not grieve for the Gatasu- the dead or the Agatasu--the ones living, but about to go,Arjuna did not know this truth and yet he talked words like a wiseman.Lord Krishna told Arjuna that one should do his Dharma and Arjuna being a Kshatriya, his dharma was to fight the war and not to turn the back to enemies. And the wisemen should know that they can not kill any one and the bodies are there to die one day, whether you kill or not.
Perhaps Krishna is suggesting us that we should not worry for any thing, simply we should do what our dharma tells us to do. The Varnashrama dharma is intented here. Grief is not the nature of us,but Happiness is,so the most natural thing for us to do is to remain HAPPY IN LIFE.

Jai Jai Sree Radhe, Jai Jai Sree Radhe, Jai Jai Sree Radhe.
